This clinic will cover training from the ground & up and is perfect for those who are aiming for the Thoroughbred Makeover!
Times are approximate and may extend 15 minutes past the end time if need be to assist every rider fully.
Handlers and Riders with colts or stallions attending are required to wear white gloves with braided yellow tail ribbon and MUST demonstrate safe handling.
Please NO standing martingales, running only.
Please remember to bring buckets and water for your horses.
9:00-10:30 AM Groundwork & Lunging
Ideal for those who have horses who have not been restarted back under saddle since retiring from the track. We will be tackling the proper way to work a horse to achieve concentration, focus, and confidence when starting into a new career. Participants should have their horses tacked in a proper headstall and suitable cotton lunge line without a chain (snap only). The group may be split for those seeking to start the first ride on their horse. Headstall only required for groundwork. If you wish to start a first ride under your horse during this segment, you may arrive fully tacked.
Groundwork will include focus and concentration exercises, acceptance, confidence boosting, introduction over obstacles in hand, rails and more.
10:30 - 12:00 Noon First rides and Problem Solving
Ideal for riders and horses who have minimal rides under saddle since retiring from the track. Each rider will be catered to individually. This segment will tackle proper flat work and help assist each rider as well as cover problem solving for horses having a hard time in certain training situations to help achieve a solid foundation and confidence while working and training. Encouraged for those who have horses that may not be confident or resistant during training.
12:00 Noon to 1:00 Lunch
1:00 - 2:30 PM Flat Work, Transition and Staying Supple
Ideal for riders who are confident in their first rides with their horses. Horses in this segment will be asked to walk, trot and canter individually (may be asked to trot in a group, but WILL canter separately). We will be tackling transitions, pole work, bending and staying supple.
2:30 - 4:00 PM Starting Over Fences
Ideal for horses ready to advance in their training to start over fences. This segment will cover confidence building when asking your horse to start over fences to allow for a safe ride and confident horse who will look forward to their next training sessions. We will also be covering flat work and transitions to allow for a supple and correct ride.
